Mortality Trajectories in Hydra vulgaris

In the summer of 2006 we initiated two long-term mortality experiments with Hydra vulgaris collected in the wild from populations in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, and New York State, USA. We have also inititated two addtional long-term experiments with Hydra vulgaris of the lab strain AEP. AEP was generated (many years ago) by a cross between hydra collected from Pennsylvania and California. For the two AEP experiments we are using hydra produced by budding and from eggs.

This work is being done in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research, Rostock, Germany.
